The horses are the heart of Westway Stables.
There are up to 20 ponies and horses housed in purpose-built brick stables. They range from very small to really big. Clients and horses are carefully matched so that they suit each other. There are horses to give confidence to the nervous riders and bolder ones for more experienced riders.
Each horse at Westway is treated as an individual. All their work is carefully allocated so they are happy, interested and sane. The horses have a busy life but everyone gets out of London for regular rest and holidays.
There are several Welsh, Connemara, New Forest and Shetland ponies. These British native 'mountain and moorland' breeds are world-renowned for their calm nature and robust constitution. The best thing about ponies is that they really get into the spirit of things and enjoy playing with people as much as people enjoy playing with them!
Sarah has show-winning Welsh ponies including 'Jimmy' a registered Welsh Section C. He is always in the ribbons and, best of all, was second at the 2003 Royal Welsh Show.
Several of the other horses are the traditional coloured cobs beloved by the Gypsies. These animals are also well-known for their excellent temperaments as well as strength and endurance. Known as tinker ponies such horses cost a fortune in the USA. Sarah thinks hers are priceless.
